Applying for Aid

JOIN US! For a FASFA Workshop

FAFSA on the Web

The FAFSA application is available October 1st of each year and all students must apply or reapply yearly.  To be considered for the most financial aid available, students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after October 1st. The processed results of the FAFSA must be received by IRSC on or before our priority deadlines (see below). Applications received after these dates will still be processed, but it’s possible the award will not be available before the intended semester classes begin.  Use the IRS retrieval tool to pull your income information into your FAFSA.

How to Fill Out the FAFSA

Complete the FAFSA online. Our school code is 001493.

FAFSA Application Priority Dates

Fall July 15
Spring October 15
Summer March 16

In order to have their financial aid awarded before classes begin, students should have their processed FAFSA and all necessary documents to the financial aid office by the priority deadline.

  • If the priority date is missed, students should apply as soon as possible to be considered for financial aid that is still available, such as Pell Grants, Federal Student Loans and Direct PLUS loans.
  • Students should not wait to be admitted to IRSC before applying for financial aid, however, admissions must be complete before aid can be awarded.
  • A broad range of scholarship programs are available throughout the year. Please review our scholarship listing for specific deadline dates for individual scholarships.

Application Checklist

Completing Your Financial Aid Application file

Your financial aid file is considered “complete” and “ready for awarding” once the following information has been received and reviewed by the Financial Aid Office:

  • A valid Student Aid Report (FAFSA) is on file at IRSC.
You may complete the FAFSA online.
  • Admission status is complete.
You are fully admitted to IRSC when your admission is complete and all documentation has been received by the Admissions/Records office. This includes transcripts from high school (or valid GED scores) – you may be awarded without your high school transcript/GED, but you cannot be disbursed. However, if we do not receive your high school/GED transcript by a certain date (you will be notified of the date), your aid will be taken away. Questions regarding your admission status may be directed to the IRSC Office of Admissions & Records by calling (772) 462-7460.
  • You must be degree seeking or certificate seeking.
All AA, AS, AAS, and BS programs are eligible. Certain certificate and vocational programs are eligible.
  • Your verification documents.
The Federal Government may select your application for a process called “verification.” If you are selected for verification, you and your spouse (or parents) must submit a copy of your Income Tax return transcript from the IRS (check your online documents to determine which year is appropriate) along with copies of all W-2 form(s). NOTE: we can no longer accept copies of the actual tax returns. You will also need to complete a Verification Worksheet.  Once the above information has been submitted (along with any other necessary documents), your application will then be reviewed to determine your eligibility for aid.

Helpful Hints

  • Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1st of each year.
  • Turn in requested documents promptly.
  • Include your name and student id (or SSN) on all documents submitted.
  • Start a financial aid folder of your own and keep copies of all documents submitted.
  • Make sure you turn in a copy (not the original) of your tax return transcript and W-2’s (if requested).
  • If you register for classes, but decide not to attend, you must officially drop your classes by the end of the Add/Drop period (especially if you are receiving financial aid).
  • If there are extenuating circumstances or problems at anytime, please stop by to speak with an advisor.
  • For financial aid purposes, fulltime enrollment is 12 or more credits, three-quarter time enrollment is 9-11 credits, halftime enrollment is 6-8 credits, and anything less than 6 credits is less than halftime enrollment.
  • All classes must be compliant to be considered for Federal aid (Pell, Student Loans, SEOG, ACG, Teach Grant); which means they must count towards your degree program.
  • You must be enrolled at least halftime (6 credits) in compliant classes to be eligible for a loan disbursement.
